How to take measurements for a custom motorcycle suit?

To achieve the perfect fit for a custom motorcycle suit, it's important to take accurate measurements. This short guide will help you measure yourself. You may need assistance during the process, so having a friend nearby will be very helpful. These illustrations will also be useful.

Instructions:

  • Take all measurements without shoes
  • Keep your body relaxed while taking measurements.
  • In addition to measuring your total height, keep your feet shoulder-width apart.

1

Height

Stand with your feet together. Take off your shoes before measuring. Measure from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.

2

Find the right spot on your waist

Just above the peak of the iliac crest, or almost parallel to the navel, is the correct point for measuring your waist. Tie a perfectly level horizontal string around the highest point of the iliac crest. Use this string to measure your torso length, from waist to toe, and waist circumference.

A

Measure your torso, neck, and waist.

Measure from the seventh vertebra to the string you tied around your waist. Take the measurement from your back.

B

Measure from waist to floor

Stand up. Take off your shoes. Measure the distance between the tip of your iliac crest (the cord you tied around your waist) and the middle of the sole of your foot. Take the measurement from the side.

C

Measure from neck to floor

Measure the distance from your seventh vertebra (the prominent bone at the back of your neck) to the soles of your feet. Stand upright, comfortably erect. Separate your feet to shoulder width.

D

Measure the inseam to the floor

Keep your back straight. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart. Measure from the bottom of your torso to the floor. Keep the measuring tape perpendicular.

E

Measure chest circumference

Measure just below the armpit. Measure while standing. Wrap the measuring tape around the widest point of your chest and over your shoulder blades, breathing normally.

F

Measure the width of the chest

Keep your arms relaxed. Measure from the elbow to the elbow. Follow the natural curve of your body. Do not pull the measuring tape too tight.

G

Measure the width of your back

Similar to measuring chest width, measure from the armpit to the other armpit. Follow the curve of your body, above your shoulder blades. Keep your arms relaxed at your sides.

H

Measure the circumference of the waist

The waist is measured just above the highest point of the iliac crest. This is the same point where the string was tied to determine the waistline. Breathe normally. Take the measurement while standing.

I

Measure the circumference of the hip

Measure horizontally at the widest point. To do this, look at yourself from the side to correctly identify the widest part of your hips.

J

Thigh circumference

Just below your torso, measure your thigh at its widest point.

K

Measure your knee

Stand up and relax. Measure your knee at the center of your kneecap.

L

Measure your calf

Take this measurement at the widest part of your calf.

M

Ankle circumference

Measure approximately 3 cm above the ankle bone/outer ankle knuckle.

N

Measure the width of your shoulders

Measure from the right humerus (the most prominent part of the shoulder bone) to the left humerus. Measure in a straight line. Do not follow the curve of the body when measuring shoulder width.

O

Measure the circumference of the armhole

Pass the tape measure under your shoulder and over the top edge of your shoulder blade. Keep the tape measure slightly loose, about the size of your thumb.

P

Sleeve length from shoulder to wrist bone

Keep your arm straight. Measure from the most prominent point of your shoulder blade to your wrist. Take the measurement with your arm relaxed and at your side.

Q

Measure from the middle of the back to the center of the elbow

The measurement from the middle of the back (along the spine) to the tip of the elbow, with the arm bent and raised to shoulder level.

R

FROM THE CENTER OF THE ELBOW TO THE WRIST

The distance measured from the end of the elbow to the wrist (at the protuberance of the ulna bone), keeping the arm bent and raised to shoulder height.

S

NECK CIRCUMFERENCE

The circumference measured 2 cm below the Adam's apple at the front, and at the seventh cervical vertebra at the back (i.e., NOT horizontally).

T

MUSCLE CIRCUMFERENCE

The circumference measured on the biceps while flexed in the typical biceps flex position.

U

ELBOW CIRCUMFERENCE

The measurement is obtained by passing the tape horizontally around the elbow (and over the elbow bone) with the arm relaxed at the person's side.

V

FOREARM CIRCUMFERENCE

The circumference measured around the forearm muscle, at the point of maximum circumference while flexed (as in the biceps curl position) with the fist closed and rotated 180 degrees (away from the head).

W

WRIST CIRCUMFERENCE

The maximum circumference of the wrist, measured at the most exposed bone (at the protuberance of the ulna bone).
